30 Years of NOHA: Highlighting Local Programmes

In 1993, the 5 universities that composed NOHA at the time set on board the pioneering task of finding space for universities among the then limited humanitarian stakeholder mix. They established a network of universities across Europe delivering a multidisciplinary Masters programme that would be managed and administered by academics from a range of related disciplines.

This year, NOHA is gearing up to celebrate its 30th anniversary and highlight the incredible work, stories, and people that have made NOHA what it is over the past three decades. But NOHA is not alone in recognising this milestone, at many of the local universities, the NOHA story as well as its students, alumni, and staff are being recognised.

In Uppsala, the university chose to highlight the programme on its website, interviewing current students on their international pathways through the programme and staff on why humanitarian action is more important now than ever. You can read the full story on the University of Uppsala website here: https://www.uu.se/en/news/article/?id=20498&typ=artikel&lang=en.

Likewise, in Germany, a television programme on a regional channel near Bochum featured a story on the Ruhr-University Bochum's training of future humanitarian workers through the NOHA programme and the EU Solidarity Corps. As part of the this story, NOHA's Communication and Administrative Manager, Will Jamison Wright, was interviewed in the studio on the work students and volunteers can do after the programme and the key aspects of humanitarian response. As 2023 rolls along, NOHA will be carrying out further activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Keep an eye on the NOHA website and social media channels for more information on local programmes and central activities.
