Since 2012 Vilnius University, as a member of NOHA network, has organised a short in-class introductory course each spring on humanitarian action for those who are involved in humanitarian action and feel the need to upgrade their basic knowledge and skills and more generally those who are willing to join the humanitarian action.
This year the short-online training is being organised in partnership with the Lithuanian National Non-Governmental Development Cooperation Organisations’ Platform (Lithuanian NGDO Platform). This training would focus on NOHA regional perspective and challenges relating them with the NOHA focuses for mutual exchange. The participants of the training will study in the areas related to humanitarian activities, humanitarian action, protection. The training will include the lectures on humanitarian principles, principles of humanitarian action, the challenge of security for humanitarian operation with a focus on operations in Ukraine, trauma-sensitive approaches to humanitarian action: working with refugees.
The last day of the training will cover the topics and exchange of experiences in humanitarian action and CSOs involvement in the region and in Ukraine. Armed conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in early 2014 following Russia’s annexation of Crimea. Since the beginning of the full scale Russian military invasion earlier on February 2022, Ukraine rapidly emerged as one of the world’s most complex emergencies. At least 7.5 million refugees fled Ukraine and have been recorded across Europe, while an estimated 8 million people had been internally displaced. Across Ukraine and Europe, thousands of humanitarian organizations and initiatives have provided life-critical aid and protection services.
